OB_031 — Progressive Light Perforation
Status
Status:: Finished
1. Operation Data
Internal number: OB_031
Operating regime: Direct Material Intervention
Source image: Input 001.jpg.webp — technical image of a ball.
Operational description:
The technical image is printed on paper and progressively perforated with a pointed pencil. The print is placed in front of a computer screen with a white background and photographed in each state: the light passes through the perforations and transforms the continuity of the image into a grid of dots, apertures, and areas of transparency.
2. Tools and Procedure
Tools / medium:
- Paper print of the technical image
- Pointed pencil
- Computer screen with a white background
- Camera for recording
Technical procedure:
Perforate the print cumulatively with the tip of the pencil. After each stage of perforation, place the paper in front of a white screen and photograph the light passing through the support. The sequence preserves fourteen selected states of the intervention.
Script: Not applicable.
3. Variables
Controlled variables:
- Perforating tool: pointed pencil.
- Luminous background: white screen.
- Cumulative order of the perforations.
Uncontrolled / accidental variables:
- Size, edge, and tearing of the paper around each perforation.
- Variations in position, reflection, and exposure during photographic recording.

6. Crisis and Formal-Perceptual Reading
Main crisis: Pending selection.
The operation affects the visual grammar of the image: shape, contour, color, figure/ground relationship, legibility, recognition, and support:
The perforation turns the support into an active part of the image. The white light passes through the open dots and replaces fragments of the figure with luminous emptiness; upon accumulation, the holes interrupt contours, destabilize the figure/ground relationship, and cause the ball to lose continuity and recognition.
7. Final Evaluation and Artistic Reference
